Ms. Lucy - Director, Founder and Head Teacher
Hello! I graduated from Oregon State University in 2005 with a Bachelors of Science
degree in Fisheries & Wildlife Sciences. My specialization was Environmental Education with an emphasis on Herpetology
& Biology. I was the Education & Outreach Coordinator for the Fisheries & Wildlife Club (also the American Fisheries
Society Oregon Student Chapter & The Wildlife Society Oregon Student Chapter) for 3 years. The 4th year I was President
of the F&W Club. During my Presidency, we were voted the Best Club in the College of Agricultural Sciences at OSU.
During college, I was an intern at Brad's World Reptiles where I did Education & Outreach as well as Husbandry. My senior
year of college, I was rewarded with the Senior of the Year Award.
Directly out of college, I was the Head Teacher for 3rd-5th grades
during an After School Program at Lincoln Elementary in Corvallis. I taught several different programs, including Outdoor Survival,
Animal Science, Chemistry & Volleyball.
After college, I was hired by Corvallis Public Schools to create programs for Outdoor School.
I was also hired by Corvallis Parks & Recreation to create a summer camp called CSI-Animals. I also volunteered for the
American Fisheries Society Oregon Chapter as the Education & Outreach Coordinator and for Salmon Watch, in which we would take
groups of middle school students to the local rivers to learn about salmon & their habitat.
I worked at the Oregon Coast Aquarium
for 10 years (starting in high school, as a volunteer) in the Education Department. I was hired when I turned 18 and soon became
the Head Teacher for the Sleep with the Sharks Sleepover Program. I was also a tour guide for Behind the Scenes Tours of the
Shark Feedings, Sea Lion Encounters & Octopus Encounters.
I worked at the Oregon Zoo for 5 years in the Conservation Education
Department. During camps, I was the Head Teacher for several different age groups throughout the years; including: 2nd, 4th,
7th, 8th & 9th grades. I was also a Tour Guide for the Sleepover Program.
I worked at Learning Years Day School, in Hillsboro,
during the Zoo's off seasons. I was a Teacher for the Kindergarten Supplement Program and the After School Program. I
also created and implemented a Nature Program for all ages (infants-kinders).
In 2008, I created Natural Beginnings Day School and
have been running it in my home ever since. I hope to expand to a child care center some time in the future.
Teaching Green since 2008!
